Doom not only saves Sue's daughter, but also cures Johnny of a recent problem with his powers where Johnny was unable to 'flame off' without technological support after becoming overcharged with energy from the Negative Zone , by channeling Johnny's excess energy into Sue to keep her alive.

After the birth, Doom's only apparent condition for his aid is that he be allowed to name Sue and Reed's daughter, calling her ' Valeria ' after his long-lost love.

However, this inspires a new plan where Doom makes Valeria his familiar while seeking out her namesake as part of a deal with a trio of demons known as the Hazareth Three ; by sacrificing his old lover, Doom is granted magical powers on the level he would possess if he had spent the past years studying sorcery rather than science, beginning with Valeria's skin becoming his new armor.

Determined to ensure that Doom cannot be a further threat, Reed takes control of Latveria to dismantle all of Doom's equipment, [54] simultaneously subtly driving his family away so that he can trap Doom and himself in a pocket dimension so that he can make sure Doom never threatens anyone again.

However, this plan backfires when the rest of the team attempt to rescue Reed, resulting in Doom transferring his spirit into Sue, Johnny and Ben respectively, forcing Reed to kill his best friend to stop his greatest enemy.

Doom himself may or may not have been responsible. In another ploy to gain leverage during this time of disunity, Doom proposed an alliance between Latveria and the Black Panther 's country of Wakanda.

Black Panther and his new wife, Storm , however, saw through Doom's intrigue. So Doom sought to align his country with another.

Following the destruction of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis , Doctor Doom made Latveria into a refugee camp for the Atlanteans [58] and struck an alliance with Loki in his plot to manipulate Thor to unwittingly release his Asgardian enemies.

Iron Man led S. This arrangement was interrupted when the Mighty Avengers arrested Doctor Doom and incarcerated him for crimes against humanity.

Doctor Doom and Iron Man managed to return all three to the present. Doctor Doom was released from prison by the Fantastic Force , a group from a distant future returned to the present.

The Fantastic Force kidnapped Doom and the Human Torch to use them as a power source for a time travel device that was made from the dead body of Galactus.

The whole plan of the Fantastic Force was led by the future Sue Storm. In what should have been a happy ending, Doctor Doom killed the future Sue Storm, to "restore his honor.

Due to Doom's status, Dracula approached him to secure a non-aggression pact - between both Doom and the Cabal - before attacking Britain.

Doom, who loathed Dracula, refused to acknowledge his regal standing. Morgan le Fay traveled to present day Latveria to punish Doctor Doom for failing to come through on his end of their bargain.

Norman Osborn rescued Doom from mystical paralysis, and they linked their armours to access Doom's time cube in order to go back in time and stop Morgan le Fay.

Doom either could not or would not destroy le Fay, despite having the power to do so, because her future was intertwined with his.

Instead, Doom sent her back in time, forcing her to battle her way back to her present, and thereby distracting her from fighting Doom and the Dark Avengers.

Doom showed contempt for Osborn and his "ignorance" to the time stream and went back to the present and undid all that le Fay had done to the Dark Avengers.

Then Doom magically restored Latveria and rebuilt his castle with use of the time cube. After his initial capture and release for crimes against humanity, Doom revealed that he had been taught everything by a master, someone that was far more powerful and evil than he himself, and that he would soon be returning.

When his master, the Marquis of Death , arrived, he was displeased with what Doom had been doing in the two decades since his departure.

He expected Doom to be the vicious ruler of the Earth, not the ruler of a small country constantly defeated by heroes such as the Fantastic Four.

After playing with his mind, he beat Doom and banished him to the Pliocene Age to die. With his new apprentice, the Marquis of Death began to torment the Fantastic Four as punishment, but was defeated by them.

When Richards chose not to finish off his defeated foe, the Marquis' Apprentice, revealed to be Doom, did it for him. Doom waited for years in the past using all his knowledge and sorcery to survive.

He then became the Marquis' Apprentice once more and waited for the moment that the Marquis would be weakened enough for him to gain his revenge, and it came when he faced Mr.

Doom declared that all rivalries between him and Richards had long been settled to his satisfaction. When the Asgardians moved from Asgard , which was floating above Broxton , Oklahoma , to Latveria on Loki's suggestion, Doom secretly began capturing Asgardians, experimenting on them to discover what gave them their immortality.

He even mutilated some Asgardians by converting them into cyborgs, serving his twisted ambitions. He set these cyborgs loose upon Balder and company.

However, Thor came to avenge his people and engaged Doom in combat. After realizing that he could lose, Doom fled and entered the weapon he had been working on: a new version of the Destroyer Armor.

He reengaged Thor and began to beat him down, with Thor unable to hurt him. Realizing that Doom's armor was powered by a battery, Thor held off Doom until the suit's power finally ran low, forcing Doom to retreat.

Doom had one last meeting with Norman and his Cabal, but still refused to side with Norman. To show off his power, Norman unleashed his 'secret weapon' on Doom and defeated him.

But Doom was obviously prepared for this sort of attack, as he had sent a Doombot in his place. Doom had made it clear that no one could control him.

When Doom learned of a xenophobic group of Wakandans known as the Desturi , he began his plans for gaining access to the vast amounts of vibranium located in Wakanda.

Vibranium has the ability to be magically charged and has infinite power potential, something Doom had figured how to use to make himself virtually unstoppable.

Doom developed nanite cameras which were dispersed into all Wakandans, making them unknowing spies for Doom. With all the security information of Wakanda available to him, he was able to gain access to the vault that contained the country's vibranium.

In a last ditch effort to stop him, T'Challa rendered all Wakandan vibranium inert and useless. Long ago, Doom betrayed the Leader and his super-villain group the Intelligencia.

The group later reformed and planned to 'lobotomize' their competition and capture eight of Earth's greatest minds, including Doom.

Doom was captured by the Intelligencia using the Hulk Robot. When the Young Avengers helped Magneto find his daughter Wanda , they found her with no memory of her past and betrothed to Doctor Doom.

He was revealed to have played a part in increasing the power levels of the Scarlet Witch, leading to the events which disassembled the Avengers and the alteration of reality known as M-Day.

When the Young Avengers traveled back in time with Wanda, they were able to restore her memory, and thus her powers. Back in the present, Doom stole Wanda's powers in an effort to become fully omnipotent.

He offered to make perfect the lives of all those present and even revive the dead, only if he became the king of the world. The Young Avengers, the Avengers and the X-Men refused, instead battling him until his new powers overloaded, leaving him powerless again.

He escaped, teleporting himself away after taking responsibility for all of Wanda's actions, stating that she was only a puppet, and only he was powerful enough to create that kind of chaos.

After the death of the Human Torch, Doom joined the Future Foundation with the condition that Reed Richards would restore the intelligence he lost at the hands of the Intelligencia.

There, with the help of the Future Foundation they re-built Reed's " the Bridge ", a device that allowed Reed to peer into alternate realities, traveling to them at will.

Rather than taking his chance to escape, Doom stayed and fought for Latveria. With no knowledge as to how he survived the blast from the Mad Celestials, Doom woke up in the middle of the ruins of the Interdimensional Council of Reeds , where Valeria had left him a present: the full army of lobotomized Doctor Dooms from alternate realities who were previously captured by the Council, along with two Infinity Gauntlets from other universes.

With these resources, Doom created the Parliament of Doom. Doom journeyed to the universe that one of his Infinity Gauntlets had belonged to, which was now empty and desolate, and used the gauntlet to breathe life into it anew.

He separated magic and science, creating the basic rules for their existence, created new lifeforms and made himself their ruler.

On a world where science and magic were wed, his creations turned on him and six rulers divided Doom's Infinity Gems between them.

Reed and Nathaniel Richards entered this universe to save Doom after being told by Valeria that he was in grave danger.

They managed to convince five of the rulers to pardon Doom and managed to escape the clutches of the sixth, bringing Doom back to their universe.

Upon their return, Doom declared that he and Richards were even again. After his return, Latveria became the site of an incursion , a collision between Earth and one of its alternate universe counterparts.

This incursion was different however, in that it was controlled by a mysterious group known as the Mapmakers , who had rigged the other Earth to explode and wished to mark Doom's Earth for potential expansion.

Doom fought off the Mapmakers with the help of his adopted son Kristoff Vernard, whilst unbeknownst to him, the Illuminati blew up the other Earth.

After the incursion ended, Doom was alerted to a rock that had fallen from the sky, which was in truth the Mapmakers' beacon.

Doom contacted Reed Richards and Stephen Strange in order to confront them about the Illuminati's presence in Latveria and the incursion, but to his fury, they refused to give him answers and Reed warned him not to contact him in regard to the incursions again.

After imprisoning Loki due to the manipulations of an older Loki , Doom discovered that his people were fighting one another and rallying against him.

After beginning to have bad thoughts himself, Doom realized that Latveria was under a telepathic attack. He used a spell to protect himself, and discovered that the Red Skull had been responsible for this attack.

Meanwhile in Castle Doom, Loki had been freed by Valeria, who used his truth sword Gram to release a "truth wave" which stopped the telepathic influence over Latveria.

Doom journeyed to Genosha with the rest of the villains that were recruited by Magneto. They destroyed one of the Skull's Stark Sentinels , which was keeping some of the heroes who had defied the Skull captive.

Doom and the Scarlet Witch began to cast an inversion spell to alter the moral compass of the Skull in order to defeat him.

The spell was successful, but it accidentally also affected everyone else on the island. After the island was covered by the spell, all of the villains disappeared without a trace, including Doom.

Doom returned to Latveria, changed into a selfless and kind man due to the spell, ready to make amends for his past sins.

With the help of an Avengers team assembled by Valeria, Doom managed to get hold of a portion of the Scarlet Witch's powers, which he used to make right one of his past misdeeds, the murder of Cassie Lang , and bring her back to life.

Wanda managed to finally confront Doom, who was saved by Magneto and Quicksilver. While Magneto and Pietro tried to convince Wanda not to cross the line and take Doom's life, Doom fled to another dimension, [78] where he made a pact with a demigod to bring Doctor Voodoo back to life.

After teleporting to New York, where the inverted heroes and villains were fighting, the inverted Red Skull helped Doom and Daniel cast the spell, which successfully brought almost everyone back to normal, including Doom.

Victor took advantage of the confusion brought by the re-inversion and abducted the Red Skull to Latveria, for experimentation.

Over the following months, Victor worked with a team of scientists to reverse-engineer one of the pieces of a Mapmaker he gathered from the incursion that took place in Latveria.

The Mad Thinker successfully managed to map their entire network. Doom planned to use the Molecule Man , whose energy frequency matched with the beacon's, to oppose whatever was the origin of the incursions and the decay of the multiverse.

Doom and the Molecule Man travelled twenty-five years into the past to an alternate reality to witness the origin of said reality's Molecule Man.

The journey affected Molecule Man's mind, restoring it from its chaotic state, and he told Doom of his origins. The Molecule Man was a singularity across every single universe, a "bomb" created by the Beyonders to detonate across the entire multiverse at once.

If a Molecule Man died, his universe died with him. If every Molecule Man died at the same time, every universe died simultaneously with them, and that was the Beyonders' goal.

The Molecule Man killed his counterpart, which set off the early death of his counterpart's universe, and caused the incursions.

The Molecule Man convinced Doom that in order to thwart the plans of the Beyonders, he had to embark in a mission to kill Molecule Men.

Even if Doom's actions resulted in a similar result to the Beyonders' plans, the destruction of realities, Doom's course of action attempted to save all that he could from the destruction, as setting off some of the Molecule Men earlier would diminish the charge of the explosion the Beyonders had planned.

Doom would also capture Molecule Men from other universes in order to create an even greater bomb with which he would destroy the Beyonders.

Eight years after the beginning of his journey, when Doom had killed thousands of Molecule Men, he encountered one who would be the first of his Black Swans , a cult he would form around the religious concept of himself, under the identity of "Rabum Alal" the "Great Destroyer".

They destroyed other Earths during incursions as an offering to Rabum Alal and to buy more time for other universes for every Earth destroyed during an incursion two universes and one of the Earths were saved.

In the present, when Doctor Strange and the Black Priests traveled to the Library of Worlds to find Rabum Alal, who had been believed to be one of the main causes of the decay of the multiverse, Doctor Doom presented himself.

In a last ditch attempt to save the multiverse, Doom took Strange and the Molecule Men to confront the Beyonders.

When the multiverse finally perished in the final incursion between Earth and Earth , [86] Doom used the power of the Beyonders to salvage the remains of several realities and build a patchwork planet named Battleworld , which was ruled under his iron fist, with the help of Stephen Strange, who was Battleworld's sheriff.

As eight years went by, Doom and Strange managed to twist the memories of their inhabitants, to the point they would no longer remember what had existed before Battleworld.

Even though he was an omnipotent ruler, Victor ultimately felt he was failing his duty as a god, he thought he wasn't capable of properly inspiring his people, and even though Battleworld was the perfect world he wanted, he considered himself its only flaw.

The relative monotony of Doom's reign was interrupted with the discovery of an empty vessel in the domain known as Utopolis , a life raft that had been built by the survivors of Earth, the villainous Maker and the Cabal.

The vessel kept them in suspended animation for the eight years that passed, and had allowed them to survive the end of the multiverse and end up on Battleworld.

Sheriff Strange recognized the design of the raft, which was that of a similar vessel he had found three years earlier and had kept hidden in his Isle of Agamotto.

When Strange investigated the vessel of his proprietary, he freed its occupants, the survivors of Earth, among which were Mr. Fantastic, Namor and Black Panther.

After being informed of the nature of Battleworld and its ruler, the survivors of Earth helped Sheriff Strange confront the Maker and the Cabal, who had been finally pinned down by Battleworld's police force, the Thor Corps.

Fantastic in the scene, which is when he immediately teleported to Utopolis, and stopped the fray, demanding the newcomers to recognize his authority.

To prevent Doom from prejudicially acting upon the interlopers, Stephen used his magic to teleport them away. Following the disappearance of the Cabal and the heroes from Earth, Doom confronted Strange for disobeying him, and ultimately killed him after Stephen accused him of being afraid of Richards.

Doom later commanded Valeria and the department of science of Battleworld, the Foundation , to find the interlopers, pinning Strange's murder on them.

Some of Doom's allies started fighting against him, namely the Thor Corps, who had been convinced to fight against their god by the Thor survivor of Earth When he decided to step into the fight, Doom was confronted by Black Panther and Namor, with the former having acquired an Infinity Gauntlet from Sheriff Strange's sanctuary.

He teleported to Molecule Man's chamber, which had been found by Mister Fantastic. The Molecule Man partially stripped Doom from his power in order to allow a fair fight.

During the furious confrontation, Doom accused Richards of believing he could've done better had he had Doom's power, and when Reed conceded he did, so did Doom.

On the grounds that both agreed, Molecule Man gave Doom's power to Reed, destroying Battleworld in the process.

With the power he had received from Molecule Man, and with help from his revived family, Mister Fantastic began to restore the Multiverse, including Earth The feeling of unfulfillment left in Victor during his tenure as a deity prompted him to look for other ways to find personal realization.

While rethinking his life, Doom was ultimately struck with the notion that if the selfish act of ultimate power wasn't his calling, maybe the opposite could hold true.

Thus he set out to become a force of good in the world. Before departing Latveria, Victor appointed the top military mind in the country, General Karadick , as temporary head of state so he could help Latveria transition into a free state.

In order to make more apparent his transition to the side of the angels, the now-unarmored Victor decided to become an ally to Tony Stark , [95] a man he had always secretly admired and deemed as an equal.

During the second Civil War , Doom tried to help Stark regain his composure following the tragic loss of his best friend Jim Rhodes and the destruction of the Stark Tower.

At the same time, S. In the middle of this gauntlet, Victor found solace in a reluctant ally, Tony Stark's ex-girlfriend Amara Perera , whom Victor impregnated.

In the end, Mephisto was banished, and Doom started slowly gaining S. Doom's sudden turn against the supervillain community sparked grievances that resulted in a group of villains led by The Hood joining forces to take down Victor.

Tony confronted The Hood and stumbled into Victor. Doom took on The Hood and the demon possessing him one-on-one, and his face was severely burned by the demon in the process.

Following the villains' defeat, Victor retreated to the ruins of Castle Doom. During Victor's seclusion, the country fell under a tyrant regime.

The leader of the resistance, Zora Vukovic , infiltrated Castle Doom to confirm the rumors of Doom's return and beg for his help.

Though he was initially unwilling, Zora's words inspired Victor to pull himself together and confront the despotic forces causing pain to Latveria's citizens, refusing to use any assistance or even his armor.

After taking back control of Latveria, Doom set up a plan to capture Galactus and turn him into a source of power for Latveria as well as the rest of the world.

He lured Galactus to Earth by infusing his new right hand Zora, now going by the codename Victorious, with the Power Cosmic.

With help from the Fantastic Four, who came to Latveria after Doom broadcasted his attempt to stop Galactus to the entire world, Galactus was subdued using Doom's Big Bang Cannon , causing the World Devourer to phase into the ground and become entrapped in Mount Doom.

Doom then subsequently arrested the Fantastic Four for trespassing into Latveria. Doom held the Fantastic Four in Castle Doom in special holding cells designed especially to restrain them where he planned to execute them and broadcast it in front of the entire world and neighboring galaxies.

However, Doom underestimated the Fantastic Four's ingenuity, and using her invisibility powers, Invisible Woman made Doom's armor fade from sight, making his horrible scarred face visible to his entire audience.

Doom had Victorious take him away as he couldn't bare the shame of the outside world seeing his face. This storyline ultimately ended with the controversial Fantastic Four , where writer Walt Simonson had the Victor Von Doom who had been seen in the book during the Englehart run being revealed to be a robotic imposter and the real Von Doom, in a newly redesigned armor, returning to claim his country from his usurper.

According to Simonson's retcon , the last appearance of the real Victor Von Doom was in the "Battle of the Baxter Building" story arc, but Simonson's interpretation of the character was unaware of certain major changes at the time to the Fantastic Four.

Simonson drew up a list of stories which featured the real Doom and those which did not [27] but later writers ignored Simonson's choices, retconning these story elements as an attempt by Doom to blame his own past failures on unruly robots.

The story took its title from the "unthinkable" act Doom had to perform to acquire this new magical might from a trio of demons: killing his first love, Valeria.

With Valeria's flesh turned into new mystic leather armor, the story follows Doom as he imprisons Franklin Richards in Hell, captures Valeria's namesake , and succeeds in de-powering and imprisoning the Fantastic Four.

He subsequently attempts to prove his superiority to Reed Richards by giving him the chance to find his way out of a prison that could only be escaped through magic, in the belief that Richards would fail to do so.

With the aid of Doctor Strange, however, Richards learns to utilize magic on a basic level by accepting that he could not understand it and escapes.

Richards proceeds to trick Doom into rejecting the demons, resulting in them dragging Doom to Hell. Doom remained trapped there until the events of the "Ragnarok" storyline in the pages of Thor , which resulted in Thor's hammer Mjolnir falling through dimensions and giving Doom a way out of Hell.

In and , Doom was featured in his own limited series entitled Books of Doom , a retelling of the origin story by Ed Brubaker.

The series also set out to determine if Doctor Doom's path from troubled child to dictator was fated or if Doom's own faults led to his corruption — in essence, a nature versus nurture question; whether Doom could ever become a hero.

The Mighty Avengers invaded Latveria, Von Doom's nation, due to his involvement in creating a chemical bomb that would infect people with the symbiote though it was recently revealed that this attack was actually set up by Kristoff Vernard to put Doom out of the picture prior to Kristoff's future attempt at a coup.

The Mighty Avengers proceed to invade Latveria. During the invasion, the Sentry , Iron Man , and Von Doom are sent to the past, thanks to the Latverian ruler's time platform.

Eventually, the trio breaks into the Baxter Building and make use of a confiscated time machine to return to the present era, the Sentry taking advantage of the fact he will soon be forgotten by the world to easily defeat the Thing.

Doctor Doom transports himself to Morgana's castle to summon up a magical army and captures the Avengers, but they free themselves and he is arrested for terrorist crimes against humanity after a brief struggle that culminated with the Sentry tearing off Doctor Doom's mask.

However, Morgana le Fay engages him in a magical battle, which he is losing until the Dark Avengers rescue him. He then magically rebuilds his kingdom.

The character is also featured in the Siege storyline, where he initially approves of Osborn's attack on Asgard before withdrawing from the arrangement.

However, this plan was thwarted when T'Challa triggered a device that destroyed Wakanda's entire vibranium stockpile, choosing to believe that his people could survive without the element.

Doom then fought through time and space to get back to the present to seek revenge on the Marquis of Death. Doom stated, as he killed the Marquis, he had rebuilt every molecule of his being and increased his power all to destroy the Marquis.

In later issues, this seems to have been ignored, however, with writers treating Doctor Doom the way they have always before in terms of power, the arc later retroactively being said to have been a dream had by Valeria Von Doom.

He appears to have been damaged by this experience. At the start of the story arc Fantastic Four: Three, Doom feels that he needs to be "reborn" and makes plans to abdicate his throne and give it to Kristoff when Valeria teleports to his room unexpectedly asking for his assistance.

Valeria quickly notices that Doom has suffered brain damage and makes a deal with him to restore his mental capacities if he helps Reed and the Fantastic Four.

Doom agrees to her proposition. He also assumes the role of God and claims complete dominion of this new world and its inhabitants, controlling them into thinking he was always the almighty force of creation; following Reed's apparent demise, he takes Sue as his wife, and Franklin, and Valeria as his children.

However, Richards and a ragtag collection of heroes and villains that survived the destruction of all universes are able to challenge him and, with the help of Molecule Man, are able to take his power and restore the multiverse, something Doom had thought to be impossible.

Opting to heal rather than harm, Reed finally uses the Beyonder's power to heal Doom's face, and to purify his soul. As a sign of trust, he entrusts Tony with one of the Wands of Watoomb to help him defeat Madame Masque.

When more rebels arrive, Doom teleports Stark to the Bronx Zoo. Doom disappears before the unconscious Tony regains consciousness.

Tony still refuses to trust him after what he has done and Doom leaves once again. Amara Perera. When Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm set out to find their teammates after it is revealed that prolonged separation is weakening the FF's powers, Doom follows them as they begin to travel through parallel universes, offering his help to an alternate Reed Richards in devising a plan to stop this world's Doctor Doom who has transferred himself into the body of Galactus and consumed every other world in existence save for Earth.

In an attempt to save her series and possibly join the Avengers, Gwenpool unaware that Doom has "reformed" attempted to attack him using an AI Doombot who goes by the name Vincent Doonan to lead her to him.

Seeing this coming Doom easily captured her, though not until after she angered him by saying he looked like "Warmachine in a hoodie".

He then told Vincent, who resented him though still saw Doom as his father, that he was proud of him.

Gwen escaped, not surprising Doom because according to him "They always escape". Unwilling to risk what she sees as possibly her last chance to save herself because Doom has obviously only temporarily reformed, she attacks him anyway and releases an earlier version of Doom who has no problem fighting her and even seeing how she steps out of reality.

It soon becomes obvious that Gwen is not established enough to kill Doom and new Doom steps in to defeat his doppelganger and save her.

They talk and she accepts that she made a mistake and hopes he's right that people can be reformed. Later she gets Doom, Vincent, Dr.

Victor Von Doom was born decades ago to a tribe of Latverian Romani people under the rule of an unnamed nobleman called the Baron.

His father, Werner, was the leader of the tribe and a renowned medicine man who kept his wife's sorceress life quiet in order to protect Victor from a similar fate.

Soon after Cynthia's death, the Baron's wife grew incurably ill from cancer and Werner was called to the capital to heal her.

When she succumbed to illness, the Baron labeled Werner a murderer and called for his death. Werner escaped with young Victor, having realized the night before the woman would die.

He goes on to die of exposure on the mountainside, cradling the boy in a final embrace and giving him his garments to keep him warm.

Victor survived and, on return to the Romani camp, discovered his mother's occult instruments and swore revenge on the Baron. Victor grew into a headstrong and brilliant man, combining sorcery and technology to create fantastic devices which would keep the Baron's men at bay and protect the Roma people.

His exploits attracted the attention of the dean of Empire State University , who sent someone to the camp. Once in the United States, Victor met fellow student and future rival Reed Richards , who was intended to be his roommate, but Von Doom disliked him and asked for another roommate.

After a time, Victor constructed a machine intended to communicate with the dead, specifically his mother.

Though Richards tried to warn him about a flaw in the machine, seeing his calculations were a few decimals off, Victor continued on with disastrous results, the machine violently failing with the resulting explosion seemingly severely damaging his face.

He would later blame himself for Doom's initial fall to villainy and rise to power, but never revealed this information to anyone. Rescued by a clan of monks, Victor quickly mastered the monks' disciplines as well as the monks themselves.

Victor then forged himself a suit of armor, complete with an iron mask, but before the mask had finished cooling, Victor put it on permanently bonding it to his skin, and then took the mantle Doctor Doom.

He succeeded in leading a revolution to take over Latveria from the Baron, taking an interest in the welfare of the Roma. In his first appearance, Doctor Doom captures the Invisible Girl , using her as a hostage so the Fantastic Four will travel back in time to steal the enchanted treasure of Blackbeard which will help him to conquer the world and rule it peacefully, but he is fooled by Reed Richards, who swaps the treasure with worthless chains.

However, Doom uses this to pull him and the Fantastic Four into space, thinking this will rid him of those capable of preventing him from assuming control of the world's governments; the Sub-Mariner gets to Doom's ship and returns the Baxter Building to New York, stranding Doom on an asteroid.

Returning to Earth after learning the secrets of an advanced alien race, the Ovids, Doom accidentally exchanges consciousnesses with Mister Fantastic; Richards, inhabiting Doom 's body, switches the two back, and Doom ends up trapped in a micro-world when he is hit with a shrinking ray he had intended to use on the rest of the Fantastic Four.

He is then thrown into space when he attempts to prevent the Fantastic Four from leaving the micro-world. Richards outwits Doom by using the hallucinogenic juice against him.

Doom, believing he has killed Richards in a test of willpower, departs certain of his victory and superior intelligence, although saddened.

During the s, Doom attempted to recruit Spider-Man into joining forces with him, [55] and he came into conflict with the Avengers when Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch illegally entered Latveria to find a long-lost relative of theirs.

During the s, Doom branched out to more Marvel titles, with a battle between Victor Von Doom and Prince Rudolfo over control of the Latverian throne being featured in Astonishing Tales.

In August , Doom also made an appearance in Iron Man when the two traveled to Camelot , where Stark thwarted Doom 's attempt to solicit the aide of Morgan le Fay into defeating King Arthur 's forces with an army of revived warriors who were slain by the sword Excalibur; Doom swore deadly vengeance for that interference, which stranded him in the past - this vengeance had to be indefinitely delayed in the interest of returning to the present day.

However, Doom perverts what had been intended by the Puppet Master as a chance to give Alicia and Ben a normal life into a trap, deliberately disrupting Reed's connection to his copy to make it hard for him to concentrate while "Vincent Vaughn"- Doom's alias as he monitors the project- belittles him, and the Puppet Master eventually helps the FF learn the truth and escape Liddleville while trapping Doom in the android body he had used to monitor the FF.

During John Byrne's run in the s, Doom attempted to steal the cosmic powers of Terrax , but Doom's body was destroyed in the resulting fight between Terrax and the Silver Surfer.

While on Battleworld, Doom attempted and briefly succeeded in stealing the Beyonder's power, but it proves too vast for him to control and the disembodied Beyonder is able to take his power back.

An enraged Hulk was able to crack open Onslaught's shell. However, Onslaught remained as pure psionic energy, separated Hulk and Banner, planning to spread across the planet.

Thor Odinson plunged into Onslaught, trying to contain him. The Fantastic Four, the majority of the Avengers, and the Hulk-less Banner followed in short order, with Doom being forced to join the sacrifice when Iron Man tackled the villain into the energy mass.

Thanks to this sacrifice, the X-Men finally managed to destroy Onslaught. Doom, the Fantastic Four, and the Avengers and Banner were believed dead but were instead saved by Franklin, who created a pocket dimension called Counter-Earth to keep them safe.

After several months away, the missing heroes returned from Counter-Earth , except for Doom, who remained there for a time.

Doom uncovers the secret power at the heart of the planet, an avatar of his arch-foe Reed Richards' son, Franklin, the super-powered youth who conjured this globe and left a bit of himself behind to guide it from within.

Doom managed to convince the little boy to relinquish control of this world with little more than a few errant promises of a better life.

When Susan Richards experienced problems with her second pregnancy while Reed was away, Johnny contacted Doom for help, correctly guessing that Doom will be unable to pass up a chance to succeed where Reed failed due to the complex events involving the then-recent resurrection of Galactus , this pregnancy is a 'repeat' of an earlier one where Sue miscarried.

Doom not only saves Sue's daughter but also cured Johnny of a recent problem with his powers where Johnny was unable to 'flame off' without technological support after becoming overcharged with energy from the Negative Zone by channeling Johnny's excess energy into Sue to keep her alive.

After the birth, Doom's only apparent condition for his aid is that he be allowed to name Sue and Reed's daughter, calling her ' Valeria ' after his long-lost love.

However, this inspires a new plan where Doom makes Valeria his familiar while seeking out her namesake as part of a deal with a trio of demons; by sacrificing his old lover, Doom is granted magical powers on the level he would possess if he had spent the past years studying sorcery rather than science.

The events of this were deleted from Marvel Comics continuity in the series Secret Wars. Whether or not it was sent by Doom himself remains to be seen, as does his role in the overall conflict.

Doom was not invited to the wedding of Storm and the Black Panther. However, he did send a present: an invitation to form an alliance with Latveria, using the Civil War currently going on among the hero community as a reason to quite possibly forge an alliance between their two countries.

When Black Panther, on a diplomatic mission to other countries with Storm, did show up in Latveria, he presented them with a real present and extended another invitation to form an alliance with Black Panther.

He demonstrated behavior very uncharacteristic of him, however, which may or may not become a plot point later. Panther spurned the invitation, detonating an EMP that blacked out a local portion of Latveria before Doctor Doom 's robots could destroy his ship.

Later on, Doom is then shown collaborating with the Red Skull on a weapon which will only "be the beginning" of Captain America 's suffering.

The castle was owned by a "Baron of Iron" centuries prior, who had used his technological genius to protect himself and his people.

The map the Red Skull used to find the castle bore a picture of Von Doom. Doom states that the technology the Red Skull gave him is more advanced than what he currently has and that he will become the Baron of Iron in his future; although he does not agree with the Red Skull's principles, the time paradox the situation causes forces him to comply.

The Red Skull is currently in the process of reverse-engineering Doom's weapon for multiple uses, rather than the single use Doctor Doom agreed to.

At the end of the first chapter of the X-Men event Endangered Species , Doom is among the various geniuses that Beast contacts to help him reverse the effects of Decimation.

He spurns Beast by stating that genetics do not number among his talents. Doctor Doom later defends Latveria from the Mighty Avengers , following a revelation that it was one of Doom's satellites that carried the 'Venom Virus' released in New York City which was actually hacked by an enemy of Doom.

Despite his helping, Doom ended up falsely incarcerated at The Raft. During the Secret Invasion storyline, Doom was among those who escaped the Raft when a virus was uploaded into its systems by the Skrulls.

In the aftermath of the Secret Invasion, Doctor Doom became a member of the Dark Illuminati alongside Norman Osborn , Emma Frost , Namor , Loki 's female form, and the Hood , intending to seek revenge on the world for falsely ruining his reputation.

At the end of this meeting, Namor and Doom are seen having a discussion of their own plans that have already been set in motion. Doom soon allies himself with the isolationist group known as the Desturi to take control of Wakanda , attacking and wounding T'Challa, then the current Black Panther, maiming him enough to prevent him from holding the mantle again.

Doom's main objective was to secure Wakanda's store of vibranium, which he could mystically enhance to make himself invulnerable.

Doom was also a part of the group known as the Intelligencia after being captured to complete their plan.

With the help of Bruce Banner , he escaped and returned to Latveria, damaged by this experience. At the start of the Siege storyline, Doom was with the Cabal discussing the current problems with the X-Men and both Avengers teams.

Doom demands that Osborn at once reverse his course of action against his ally Namor, to which Osborn refuses, saying that he and Emma Frost had "crossed the line" with him.

Doom, loathing Thor and the Asgardians all the more due to his recent defeat at their hands, claims that he will support Osborn's "madness" should Namor be returned to him, but Osborn refuses.

Osborn's mysterious ally, the Void, violently attacks Doom, and an apparently amused Loki tells the Hood that he should go, as there is nothing here for either of them, which the Hood, now loyal to Loki due to his hand in the restoration of his mystical abilities, agrees.

However, it is revealed that "Doctor Doom" who had been involved with the Cabal was actually an upgraded Doctor Doombot, which releases swarms of Doctor Doombot nanites against the Cabal, tearing down Avengers Tower and forcing its denizens, such as the Dark Avengers, to evacuate.

Osborn is rescued by the Sentry, who destroys the body. When Osborn contacts the real Von Doom, Victor informs him not to ever strike him again or he would be willing to go further.

It has been revealed that the Scarlet Witch seen in Wundagore Mountain is actually a Doctor Doombot which apparently means that the real one has been captured by Doom sometime after the House of M event.

This proves to be too much for Wanda to contain and it overtook her. With Wiccan and Doom's help, they seek to use the entity that is possessing Wanda to restore the powers of mutantkinds.

This is stopped by the Young Avengers who are concerned at the fall-out that would ensue if the powerless mutants are suddenly re-powered only to find out that Doom intended to transfer the entity into his own body and gain Wanda's god-like powers of re-writing reality for himself.

The Young Avengers confront him, but Doom accidentally kills Cassie just before Wanda and Wiccan stole his new-found powers. At the start of the story arc "Fantastic Four: Three", a guilt-ridden Doom felt that he needed to be "reborn" and was making plans to abdicate his throne and give it to Kristoff when Valeria teleported to his room unexpectedly asking for his assistance to help her father.

Valeria quickly notices that Doom had suffered brain damage from his previous battle and is slowly losing his memories; she makes a deal with him to restore his mental capacities if he helps Reed and the Fantastic Four.

When Valeria asks Victor if he has a backup for restoring his memories, he reveals that Kristoff Vernard is his backup. Mister Fantastic sets up a brain transfer machine in order to help restore Victor's memories and knowledge, which is successful.

When Kristoff wants to return the throne to him, Doom states that it is not time yet because of a promise he made to Valeria. When Mister Fantastic asks what promise Doom made to Valeria, Victor states that he made a promise to help her defeat Mister Fantastic when she calls for it.

The Thing and the evolved Moloids give an invitation to the High Evolutionary. Dragon Man and Alex Power give an invitation to Diablo.

Upon receiving an invitation from Spider-Man, Mad Thinker is convinced to take part in the event. Bentley 23 even gives an invitation to his creator, the Wizard , along with two A.

However, it is subsequently revealed that the 'Richards' they have been invited to defeat are actually members of the "Council of Reeds" alternate versions of Reed who were trapped in this universe by Valeria a while back, possessing Reed's intellect while lacking his conscience.

Around this time, Von Doom performed brain surgery on the Hulk to separate him from Bruce Banner, extracting the uniquely Banner elements from Hulk's brain and cloning a new body for Banner, in return for a favor from the Hulk.

With these resources, Doom created the Parliament of Doom, an interdimensional council charged with maintaining peace across the multiverse.

With the final Incursion imminent during the Secret Wars storyline, Doom usurps the power of the Beyonders with the aid of Doctor Strange and the Molecule Man, [40] collecting what he can of the destroyed multiverse and forming a new Battleworld consisting of different alternate realities.

He also assumes the role of God and claims complete dominion of this new world and its inhabitants, controlling them into thinking he was always the almighty force of creation; he takes Sue as his wife, Franklin and Valeria as his children, condemns the Human Torch to be the sun and Ben Grimm to be the Shield wall, and rewrites his own history to resurrect the majority of those whose deaths he caused.

Richards and a ragtag collection of heroes and villains that survived the destruction of all universes challenge Doom and, with the help of Molecule Man, are able to take his power and restore the multiverse.

Opting to heal rather than harm, Reed finally uses the Beyonder's power to heal Doom's face. Doom disappears before Tony regains consciousness.

Doom is trying to prove to Tony that he has changed and is trying to correct the mistakes he has made, explaining that he has arrived to check up on Tony and see if he is suffering from any side-effects from being in the presence of an exorcism.

Remembering his dissatisfaction as a God, Doom decides that it was his role to help heal the world. Inspired by Stark, and informing his A.

Tony confronted the Hood and stumbled into Victor. Doom took on the Hood and the unidentified demon possessing him one-on-one, and his face was severely burned by the demon in the process.

Following the villains' defeat, Victor retreated to the ruins of Castle Doom.

The Fantastic Four later escaped and freed Galactus from Doom's custody. Doom then arrived with his Servo-Guards and planned to execute the Fantastic Four for humiliating him, but he was stopped from doing so when Valeria Richards teleported a swarm of creatures into Latveria before teleporting the Fantastic Four to safety.

As the conflict between Latveria and Symkaria became more heated, Doom had send one of his Doombots to join the discussion at the United Nation Assembly.

As the situation kept on escalating, Doom begun seeing vision of himself as the great ruler of the world and with a happy family.

When the Antlion Space Station was exploded, creating a Black Hole, from terrorists disguised as Latverians, they framed Latveria and Doctor Doom for its destruction and the death of many lives, in order to have Dimitri Fortunov replace Doom.

Luckily, Kang freed Doom which allowed him to save himself from the falling jet. As Doom had become wanted, Morgan le Fay contacted him and offered him shelter.

After telling her about his visions, she had Doom meet the Witness who could tell the future. However, Doom was then shot in the head by Taskmaster , killing him.

After defeating the demon he returned to life by Death in le Fay's apartment where he blasted the hero Blue Marvel unconscious.

Magic : Doctor Doom was introduced to the mystic arts by his mother who was of Romani and Latverian blood. Strange stepped down as the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth , Doom was amongst the candidates considered suitable to replace him.

Psionics: Throughout his history, Doom always searched for ways to augment himself. Due to his encounter with aliens and mutants, naming the Ovoids and the Marquis of Death , Doom has evolved as a being [] , though it is not clarified how or to what extent.

It is for sure though that he has acquired telepathic powers in the process. Those skills are the result of personal mental development and are not to be confused with magic.

He easily defeated the Fantastic Four [] , plunged one part of the world in darkness, froze an entire tropical region, and accelerated the evolution of apes into terrifying creatures.

Beyonder 's powers: Doom formerly had the powers of the cosmic being known as the Beyonder. He had vast psionic abilities, could easily change states of matter, and had a host of different powers.

He was endowed with superhuman strength of such an extent that it was potentially incalculable. Using his ability to manipulate reality, he could, in effect, regenerate damage done to his body by simply willing it to be repaired.

Other powers include teleportation , flight , the ability to choose his own physical resistances and attributes, as well as the ability to move others from one place to another via teleportation.

Super-Genius Intelligence: Doctor Doom's most dangerous weapon is his intellect. He is one of the top mortal minds on the planet.

They look like him, talk like him, and even act like him. Individually, Doombots have an advanced AI artificial intelligence so that each one believes itself to be the real Doom.

These "body doubles" appear when Doom cannot be present or is unwilling to risk his own life, and are often responsible for Doom's seeming return from certain death.

He also has natural talents for leadership, strategy, politics, and manipulation. Master Martial Artist: During his time in Tibet , Doom was trained in martial arts by the monks [].

He is vastly skilled in many combat techniques, both armed and unarmed. He has been trained by the best sword masters on Earth [] and can achieve very powerful nerve strikes.

Peak Human Conditioning: Doom has trained his body to the level of the finest human athlete. He is well-built, fast and agile. He has also displayed great reflexes and equilibrium.

His physical strength and durability match even those of Daredevil. Indomitable Will: Doom has phenomenal determination, fearlessness and strength of will.

Indeed, he has the strongest will on Earth. Hence, he was able to resist psychic attacks from Emma Frost and the Purple Man using only his will, to reject the mystical armor that the Soulsword provides the wielder on sheer willpower alone and while he was tortured in Hell, he refused to let a single audible indication of pain exit his mouth.

Doom's willpower could be considered even godly as, after having stolen the Beyonders' omnipotent abilities for himself, he was capable of creating an entire new planet from the remnants of incursion points between collapsing worlds, that new planet was Battleworld.

He held this world together with his will. He also has command of conventional military forces; see Doctor Doom's Generals. Charismatic leader : Doom is able to attract people's positive attraction, especially on the citizens of Latveria, even when his plans are failing.

He is also a skilled politician and strategist and has occasionally been the leader of numerous teams, including the Cabal and the Fantastic Four.

Diplomatic Immunity : formerly As the leader of a sovereign nation, Doctor Doom often visits the United States or the United Nations for political reasons.

He enjoys diplomatic immunity during these trips, and his embassy is considered foreign soil. He has even been escorted by Captain America himself.

After renouncing his status as ruler of Latveria [94] , it is likely he lost this status. Artist: Doom has shown himself to be a talented artist.

He painted a duplicate of the Mona Lisa while using Layla Miller as his model.

She makes it past the many Doombots that guard the palace before finally confronting Doom himself.

She tells him that Latveria has been overrun with dictators and opportunists since he left and that the nation needs its leader back.

Initially rejecting Zora's pleas for help, showing her his grotesquely scarred face in the process, Victor finally agrees when she refuses to give up and hands him his iconic mask, telling him that Latveria needs its true champion.
